The Institute for Graeco-Oriental and African Studies (IGOAS) was established in Athens (1995) by Prof. Vassilios Christides and associates as a research organization in order to promote research in the field of Oriental and African Studies in Greece and worldwide.
The IGOAS is a non profit, non-political educational and cultural organization of individuals with a research interest in Oriental and African Studies. The aim of the Institute is to promote scientific reasearch in the above fields and to support the teaching of Oriental and African Studies in the Greek Universities.
The Institute is run by a permanent Executive Committee.
The IGOAS has developed an intensive research activity. It publishes the journal Graeco-Arabica, a journal with a worldwide recognition in the field. So far 11 volumes have been published. Also the Institute organizes every two years the International Congress on Graeco-Oriental and African Studies.
